Taunton Superior Court is the venue this afternoon, June 29th, where a “Ten Taxpayers Group’ Lawsuit will bring its court case against Mayor Jasiel Correia II. The group wants to stop the mayor from privatizing trash collection under a ten year contract with E-Z Disposal. If privatization goes forward as planned tomorrow July 1st, then 24 Department of Community Maintenance workers will be out of work.
The privatization funding process was part of the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget proposal that was approved by the city council last night on a 5-4 vote. The legal action to stop the privatization until further review with public and city council input was made by City Councilor Ray Mitchell through his own admission to FRC Media News today:
