A 16 year old Fall River youth has pleaded “Not Guilty” to a murder charge and illegal firearms charges stemming from a fatal shooting.

Jayden Smith was arrested in his Fall River apartment after evading police for three months. He is charged in connection with the murder of Jerrod Cohen last July 11th.

Smith had been Number #1 on the the city and state’s Most Wanted List. Standing next to his attorney in Fall River Superior Court earlier this week, Smith pleaded “Not Guilty” three times as the charges of murder, carrying an illegal firearm and possession of a loaded weapon were read aloud in the courtroom. A bail hear was then scheduled for December 13th.

Smith is being held without bail and without prejudice, until the December hearing. According to prosecutors in the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Smith  also has an open warrant from the probation department at juvenile court.

He had been arrested on Monday, October 24th just before midnight after being on the loose since the murder.

In addition to Smith’s arrest, the DA’s office announced that Smith’s friend, a 16-year-old Fall River resident, was also arrested and charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact. The unidentified teenager was set to be arraigned in Fall River Juvenile Court Tuesday afternoon; however, due to his status as a juvenile not charged with murder, further information about him was not being released.
