According to an article in today’s Herald News, Fall River police responded to fourteen overdoses over the weekend. While none were fatal, the article by Reporter Deborah Allard, states that most of them were caused by heroin. Fall River Police Captain Joseph Cabral is in charge of tracking overdose numbers. He says the victims were all ages and came from all walks of life. The ages ranged from 27 to 63 years old.
Out of the total number of victims, eight were woman and six men. Reportedly, two of the females overdosed on pills, and one other woman on something other than pills or heroin. Cabral has been quoted as saying that it’s unusual for overdose victims to consist mostly of females rather than males.
Cabral is quoted in the Herald as saying, ‘There are no social barriers. It’s really nasty and it doesn’t discriminate.”
