Former City Councilor Dan Rego has decided against running for mayor in the upcoming recall election. In a phone interview today, Rego told FRC Media News he did pull nomination papers for the top spot last week, but afterwards decided against moving forward due to personal reasons.
“It’s not the right time for me to get back into politics,” Rego said, adding he’s throwing his support behind mayoral hopeful Kyle Riley instead.”
“Kyle is an excellent candidate who will bring the City of Fall River back to much needed stability if elected mayor,” Rego said. “Just this morning we went door to door meeting residents to get an idea of what’s important to them, and what challenges they are facing besides the common interest of more job opportunities and educational improvements. We want to get a feel of what’s important to individuals and their families so we can help average taxpayers enjoy their lives as proud Fall River residents.”
A recall election will be held March 12th in an effort to unseat Mayor Jasiel Correia after he was arrested and charged with a thirteen count federal indictment back in October. In addition to Riley, and with Rego out of the race, there are eight (8) candidates who took out nomination papers so far. These mayoral hopefuls have until 5:00 pm Wednesday, January 23rd to return them to the Board of Elections Office in order to get their names on the ballot.
