Fall River City Councilor Raymond Mitchell has decided not to seek re-election for another term after serving a total of 15 years. Mitchell has been quoted as saying he will ‘probably regret the decision the rest of my life,” but tells FRC Media News he is not running again for personal reasons.
Mitchell began his political career in the 1970s when he was elected to a new board set up by then Mayor Carlton Viveiros called REACT, which is known as the Fall River Office of Economic Development. In 1979, Mitchell successfully ran for School Committee where he served for four years.
Mitchell said he was out of the City Council limelight for 18 years and served on the Diman Regional School Committee for 10 years, seven of them as chairman. He decided to seek another term as councilor in 2009 and has been serving in that capacity since then.
