The Fall River Salvation Army needs volunteers to man the red kettles. Most of the red kettles seen at the different retailers are manned by paid workers, according to Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Rob Mellion.
“What helps most is if we can get volunteers to man a kettle. For example this Saturday, December 19th at Walmart in Swansea the Rotary club will volunteer to man the kettle all day as a relay. From 8am to 8 pm 12 volunteers will donate 1 hour of time each,” he says.
Mellion adds that some local businesses follow suit. For example, Remax realty donates a day. As a group it is not too much of a burden on any one person, he says.
Some companies require their staff to volunteer in the community and some pay their staff to do so. As a reminder; all monies raised during the kettle campaign stays here in Fall River.
